This is probably the best BIG4 we’ve stayed at so far. It might not be the newest or fanciest park in the network, but honestly, that doesn’t matter. This place absolutely nails what a family holiday park should be.
The kids’ facilities are fantastic. There are three pools, a seriously good waterslide, the usual BIG4 jumping pillow and plenty to keep the kids entertained. The slide in particular was an absolute cracker and got plenty of use from our family.
The campground itself is really well set up. Considering how dry the surrounding country is, we were surprised at how little dust there was around the sites. There are shaded camp kitchen areas with plenty of tables and chairs, drinking water, dedicated spots where you can have a fire, and sheltered areas where you can actually cook without battling the wind.
The amenities aren’t brand new, but they certainly don’t need to be. Everything worked, the showers were nice and hot with great pressure, and the facilities were comfortable and practical.
What really sets this place apart though is the staff. From the moment we checked in until the moment we left, they were absolutely fantastic. Genuinely friendly and welcoming people who seem to enjoy having families there. That sort of service makes a huge difference.
Saturday night was brilliant. We ordered the pizzas and they were absolutely delicious. Genuinely better than plenty of fancy pizzas we’ve had back in the city. There was a great atmosphere around the park. My wife did the wine tasting and absolutely loved it, and there were games for the kids, pool tables, darts and even a movie night on Saturday night, which the kids really enjoyed.
Then there are the animals, which honestly took the whole stay to another level. We have never experienced anything quite like it at a caravan park, and in some ways it was better than going to a wildlife park because it all felt so natural.
We woke up with kangaroos right near our doorstep, kookaburras sitting on our chairs, parrots and lorikeets everywhere, wallabies casually wandering around the grounds and emus strolling through like they owned the place.
The kids could just sit there and watch Australian wildlife moving around them without fences, crowds or anything feeling staged.
The afternoon animal feeding was another huge highlight, but even outside of that, the wildlife was just constantly around. That was what made it so special. You weren’t lining up to look through an enclosure. You were simply camping in the middle of it all.
For our family, that natural wildlife experience was probably better than anything we’ve had at a dedicated wildlife park. It felt genuine, relaxed and completely Australian.
We also loved getting out and exploring the gorge and doing some of the walks nearby. There is plenty to see around the area, so it is definitely worth staying a bit longer rather than just treating the park as an overnight stop.
The only real downside for us was that we didn’t bring a boat. Looking out over the dam and seeing the fishing opportunities, we were kicking ourselves a little. Next time we come back, the boat will definitely be coming with us.
We genuinely had no idea how good this place was going to be before arriving. It completely exceeded our expectations.
It’s relaxed, family-friendly, full of wildlife, has fantastic staff, plenty for the kids to do and just has a really special atmosphere about it. Out of all the BIG4 parks we’ve stayed at, this one has gone straight towards the top of our list.
We absolutely want to come back, and I’d happily recommend it to any family travelling through the area. Next time we’ll be staying longer, bringing the boat, doing some fishing and spending even more time exploring the gorge.
